A Motivational March & Sportswear Haul

I have been looking forward to the days getting longer and the temperatures rising, and finally my fleck of hope. I noticed this morning around 7 am I could see the sun peeking through the sky. Daylight Savings time was here. What a relief! So basically summer is almost here right?!

I am just going to say it, can we agree that the winter time is not the easiest time to stay motivated with working out? The gray cloudy days and blizzards just make for a great hibernation time. Then summer rolls around, it’s easy to get distracted with the festivities, vacations, holidays and falling into bad habits. Notice how I say habits, that’s the key-word.

It’s not motivation that keeps you going, it’s your habits. Falling a little out of habit, or if you have messed up your diet, or exercise that doesn’t mean it has to ruin all your progress. If your constantly stopping and starting, that means your actions don’t align with your beliefs or your wants. It could also be that you just not want it enough.

I like to look at this as a longevity aspect of life and how I am going to feel mentally, and physically when I’m in my 40’s and 50’s. I am thinking of health and wellness goals as long term preventative against sicknesses and health complications. If you don’t have good health, then it makes life so much more difficult.

I also want to live in a way that I feel my best, I still manage to workout through the harsh winter time, even with working full time and having a toddler. I will continue to make healthy food choices to nourish my body. I still find a way to keep it going, so I am going to share my techniques with you for how I stay “Motivated”.

What motivates people to work out in the first place? Could it be something they see as inspiration or a feeling they get from working out? Maybe the result it produces, becoming stronger and healthier, happier. Is it a word of advice they received, or just seeing and knowing someone else can do it and so can they? or could it be all of the above? I’m sure we can all agree, the answers may vary depending on who you ask. If you ask me, I listed some of the things below that can contribute to good habits and help set the tone to a steady fitness journey.

Instead of just focusing on what you want to have, it’s time to also time to pay attention to doing it while being emerged in it. Align your beliefs and your wants to match your actions. Look at someone who is successful and doing what you want to be doing, find out what it is that they are doing daily to make the progress towards their goals. Of course, you don’t have to mirror them exactly, things that work for another may not always work for you. That will help you a lot if you find someone that has achieved what you want to achieve.

Developing good habits is an essential part of making a healthier lifestyle. Remember to take small steps to switch old bad habits for good ones. Progress takes time, you are likely to stick with something if you make small improvements in lifestyle changes. Eventually, you can integrate more good habits into your routine that will stick. In order to stick with a good habit, you will need to be accountable, enjoy doing it and challenge yourself to do it for a month consistently to engrain that behavior. The next month you can work on refining your routine to improve upon the previous months.

I like to break things down into little chunks, it makes it easier to do and achieve attainable results.  If I can do it in a day, I will then try to do for a week. If I can do it weekly, then I challenge myself to do it monthly and so on. I think it is easy to set attainable goals that are small, each day that will contribute to how well I am doing over the whole week. Setting a realistic goal for a specific time frame is achievable. I feel so much better when I can accomplish a small task. It may not seem like much, but in the long run, I know it will have positive results. The whole point of setting a goal is to see progress and that will take time with consistent discipline.

Trust me, I’ve had those days where I am not in the mood to work out of really not feeling it, just yesterday as an example. I made the choice just to do it and get it done. That’s the issue just getting started, once I did get started working out, I wanted to stay there for hours and do every workout I know imaginable to get the best workout. I know it seems like a bit of an extreme but I enjoy working out. I enjoy training my muscles and working on my form. They say getting the body you want starts in the kitchen, cooking with recipes that are healthy make me feel good, partially because I enjoy cooking, it’s therapeutic to me. Once food preparation is complete it makes things easier in the long run and it can save you money from eating out.

I really do love creating healthy food options for my family that we can all agree on. I will even share them with my parents, which reminds me I had a flashback to when I made protein balls – my brother would inhale every single protein ball in sight. Of course, good things should be in moderation so to speak. Eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring, or dull, there are thousands of healthy recipe’s to try. When it comes to trying new workouts that I find exciting,  recently I re-discovered HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training). I combine 3 or 4 different workouts that target a certain muscle group and then go through the circuit 3 times to ensure I really work out those muscles. Honestly, I can go into details on that in another post. It keeps my workouts simple yet challenging and fun to do.

Getting new fitness apparel has me looking forward to my days in the gym and not only that I want to look and feel better in the clothes I wear. The apparel I workout in has to be breathable fabrics like the ones I am wearing from  Pretty Little Things Active Collection (Link included in Active Wear Name) the fabric allows my skin to breath, and they offer some really stylish options for a great price that won’t break the bank.

Amazing read. I’ve been slacking on working out since March has started. Reading this has motivated me and I’m taking my butt back to the gym when I leave work. Thank you Bucy, I needed to read this. ❤️

Love this post! We all need to realize that a healthier lifestyle is just that, a lifestyle. No crazy fad diet or being crazy restrictive is going to get us to where we want!
