Tips To Overcome Exhaustion

We have all been there, busy work schedules, school, life events, little ones or just the daily demands of life. All of which can leave us feeling depleted, drained of our energy, and overtired.  This really has a large impact on the performance of our daily routine causing exhaustion, lack of sleep or stress.

This past week I had a lot on my plate, as a full time working mother life events can be draining at times, preparing the taxes that we needed to file, a new career opportunity with my fiancé, ballet recital coming up, what kindergarten I am enrolling Genevieve in? This is just to name a few..oh and it wasn’t helping that I would slip away in the later evenings to read or research when left to my own device.  Might I also mention, how this weather can be so draining in the cold winter months, the lack of sunlight had me deprived and wishing I was somewhere in the tropics.

Eventually, this finally caught up to me, halfway through my day at work and I’m feeling the overwhelming waves of emotion that I cannot express. Exhaustion began to set in, from the lack of sleep, stress and well not eating much.  In the past years, I learned what the best ways to cope with stress and exhaustion, but to be honest with myself, I was only getting by. 
When I got home from work after picking up Genevieve from school, let’s just say I did not have the energy, nor the desire to workout, I was even too tired to play dolls with Genevieve. I was falling asleep while Genevieve watched her little DVD player next to me while lying in bed.

I felt so bad, I couldn’t let exhaustion get the best of my precious time and energy. I knew I had to make the decision to never let this get out of hand again.  I needed to overcome this exhaustion and snap out of it already. I realized exactly what wasn’t working for me, and that which had gotten me into this mess, to begin with, no more would I lead astray down this path exhaustion had taken me down. What I did find, was a route that has worked best to recalibrate myself and finally get back on track. Fortunately,  with simple changes to my daily routine, I noticed that I can restore my wellbeing with optimal energy to complete what I need to do and efficiently at that.

                                           GOING TO BED EARLIER
Sleep really will make a significant impact on our health, even if it’s a few hours. I’ve had nights where I would toss and turn and nothing would seem to help me fall asleep. What did work was having darkness in the room and I mean complete and utter darkness at that. The room temperature has to be set at a cooler setting. Along with keeping my phone on silent and away from the bedside. So that I don’t stay up later searching random topics that cross my mind. On those really stubborn nights, I will apply transdermal magnesium oil, mixed with lavender essential oil and coconut oil. I apply this to any areas of where I am feeling fatigued and within 15 minutes I can fall asleep peacefully. I swear to this, it really does work.

                                     SETTING BOUNDARIES & ROUTINES
I admit this is not always as easy as it sounds still, setting boundaries and routines is necessary to improve the quality of life. What matters is what I can control, and how I manage my time. It’s safe to say, there needs to be a healthy balance of work life and family life. Routines can help build the structure needed to accomplish a well rounded and efficient lifestyle. I will limit the time spent on social media, to enrich the time spent with my family. It’s wise to dedicate specific amounts of time each day to do the things that I enjoy most, family time, blogging, working out, learning, self-care, rest and relaxation.

                                        GIVE YOURSELF A TIME OUT
Listen to your body, when you need rest, food, water or even need to blow off some steam and hit the gym to release some healthy endorphins. If things get a bit overwhelming, take a deep breath, step away from what you are doing for a bit, so that when you return, you’re there with a fresh mind and a new perspective. I cannot stress this enough, good things take time, it’s wise to give yourself time to do what is needed. Even if it’s making time for yourself, or taking some time off from your hectic schedule. 

                                         NOURISH YOURSELF
Nourishing your mind, body, and soul is always a good idea. I feel better when eating healthy and nutritious meals while drinking supple amounts of water. Even working out at the gym trying new exercise can be exciting and liven things up. I really enjoy learning and reading, it truly can have a significant impact on how we develop our minds and our characters. Lastly, and most importantly, a positive mindset to keep yourself motivated, it can have a substantial impact on your overall health. Feed your physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual needs what it craves most, it is essential for a well-balanced life.

                                          RELAX AND REJUVENATE
This is one of my favorite things to do, relax and rejuvenate. I really enjoy setting the tone for the evening, playing my favorite music, a glass of wine, and spa treatment at home can have me feeling like I am a new woman. It truly is the little things, a hot shower or bubble bath. Whatever it may be for you, indulge yourself and tap into that peaceful experience to help unwind your mind, until you get to a better state of being.
